A few Dutch songs to get you pumped up on a boring Tuesday afternoon

Does anyone else find Tuesday’s boring? Its not the start of the week, its not hump day and we are miles away from the weekend. Its a bit of a non-day in my opinion. So to brighten up your none day here is a little insight into my current Dutch iTunes favourites and other songs that I am loving at the moment. I try to overlook the English ones because lets face it, I already speak English rather well (at least I’m supposed to!)

Dutch Disney Month

I’ve mentioned the power of children’s TV, music and stories. Now it is time to dedicate a post to Dutch Disney. In essence it is just classic disney dubbed over by different actors.

If you follow me on Twitter @mariavsmith1992 you may have seen the excited exchange of tweets between myself and the lovely Charlene (for those of you who haven’t already, you can check out her blog HERE!). I’ve written a post already about a Dutch Children’s Book Een Nieuwe Huis voor Tom and I’ve written about Dutch songs one more than one occasion, you can see my latest ones here. In short our tweets revolved around cute little nursery rhymes such as In Holland Staat Een Huis! The song is so so catchy! It is thanks to Charlene who gave me the inspiration to blog about Dutch nursery rhymes and disney songs that helped and do help me.

Whistle While You Work!

So today when I looked at the Dutch section that was planned for today and I didn’t really fancy it and in all honesty it just looked super hard and I haven’t got much attention for it today. So instead of doing “Gefeliciteerd met je vriendin!” (that will come later on this week) I decided to do some translating of my favourite Dutch songs. I’ve talked about the Dutch artists I love in a previous post and as a way to lift my spirits I thought I’d have a listen and translate them. I’ve always been quite musical and can pick up music and lyrics pretty swiftly therefore it makes sense to try and use this method of recall to songs. It had also occurred to me that I had favourite songs off the album “Zo Van Ah Yeah” but didn’t actually know what they meant. Win win all round I  say, a bit of music on in the background and some dutch translation it all comes together quiet nicely, utilises all of the senses so to speak. This album was out in 2013 and are technically his “old” songs because he has new ones out but everyone loves an oldie!

My two favourites I am going to talk about today are; Als Ik Naar Je Kijk – When I look at You and Beauty en de Brains – Beauty and the Brains. (For anyone interested they are numbers 1 and 3 on the album). I thought it better to pick two rather than waffle on about all 13 because lets face it I could, but that would just be boring for you all.

Youtubers Vlogs about Dutch Language

In the run up to my first class I have been desperately searching for vocabulary sheets, helpers or pointers because, for me, I hate going into something feeling completely unprepared. I understand that I am going to college to learn but its nice to go in and not feel completely out of ones depth from the word go.

In my searches I struggled. Dutch isn’t the most commonly learnt or taught language so there are limited resources around.
